Logistics
Shelley Wood, Logistics Chief
The Logistics Section provides for the needs of all department sections. St. Johns County Fire Rescue maintains a fleet of apparatus essential to our public safety mission—apparatus that includes pumpers, tankers, ladders, heavy rescues, EMS transport units, brush, and support vehicles. Many of these units, in addition to the normal “driving” components, contain high volume fire pumps, lighting, hydraulic systems, and specialized equipment that require continual upkeep and maintenance.
Additional responsibilities of the Logistics Section include department purchasing, maintaining a central supply warehouse, and delivery of supplies to seventeen fire rescue stations throughout the county. Logistics personnel are trained to repair and certify our firefighter’s self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and repair on-site many of the firefighting tools used if a breakdown occurs. Station upkeep and maintenance issues are also a part of the Logistics Section responsibilities.
Logistics personnel may also respond to large-scale incidents or structure fires to provide additional resources and maintenance support, and are considered an integral part of the command team.
