Marine Rescue Annual “King of the Beach” Competition – August 4 – 6th. This annual event is a competition between the different beach zones in a variety of rescue related skills challenges. The events range from swim relays, paddle relays, surf entry’s, medical competitions and many more. At the conclusion the beach zone with the most points will be crowned King of the Beach 2010. About Us
Since 1933 St. Johns County has been providing superior lifesaving services on the county’s beaches to residents and visitors alike. Today, St. Johns County Marine Rescue is a part of St. Johns County Fire and Rescue Department. The Marine Rescue Section is an Advanced Certified Agency through the United States Lifesaving Association.
The department employs 6 year-round Fire/Rescue personnel assigned to Marine Rescue, and approximately 80 seasonal lifeguard staff members. In addition, we work with 20 firefighters who have cross trained to work at Marine Rescue incidents. The individuals who make up St. Johns County Fire/Rescue and Marine Rescue provide technical water rescue and lifeguard services to the entire 41 ocean front miles, as well as the 216 square miles of inland water that constitutes St. Johns County.
Employment
St. Johns County Marine Rescue employs seasonal staff during the summer months from May to the end of September. Individuals wishing to work with Marine Rescue should attend one of the informational Orientation Meetings at the St. Augustine Pier Marine Rescue Office. Click for map. Minimum age of 18 and previously attend Marine Rescue Academy or hold valid USLA Certification.

Marine Rescue Academy
The Marine Rescue Academy is a requirement to work for St. Johns County Marine Rescue. The Academy will be held Saturday, February 13 – Saturday, March 13, 2010.
Qualifications
- Age: Minimum of 16 and possess a valid driver's license.
- Swim: 500 meters in < 10:00 minutes
- Run: 1/2 mile in < 3:30 minutes
Try Outs
All try outs will be held at the Solomon Calhoun Pool located in West Augustine at 1300 Duval St., on the following dates:
- Saturday, January 23, 2010
- Saturday, January 30, 2010
- Saturday, February 6, 2010
