St. Johns County is currently accepting applications for the following volunteer Board and Committee vacancies. Please call (904) 209-0300 for more information or to obtain an application.

Adjustment and Appeals Board (1) – Alternate
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the Adjustment and Appeals Board is to hear requests for code interpretation and cases for unsafe building abatement codes. The Adjustment and Appeals Board’s primary responsibility is to hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the Building Official relative to the application and interpretation of the Building Code.
Qualifications: Seeking one alternate member who resides within St. Johns County and have knowledge and experience in the technical codes that are regulated by the Florida Building Code.
Term: Members serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m. or on call as needed in Conference Room 2, 2nd floor of the County Permit Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.

Cultural Resource Review Board (1) Alternate
Purpose of Committee: Advise the Board of County Commissioners regarding cultural, architectural, archaeological, and historical resources of St. Johns County; and to identify, evaluate, document, designate, and protect these resources.
Qualifications:

  • Seeking applicants qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience, or education in the preservation of the County’s cultural resources. Members shall, when possible, have practical and professional experience in one or more of the following fields: archaeology, architecture or architectural history, curation or conservation, planning, professional engineering, real estate, history, historic preservation, or related disciplines.
  • Prefer Representatives from District 2 or 4.
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the first Monday of every other month at 3:30 p.m. in Executive Board Room at the St. Johns County Administrative Complex located at 500 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine Florida.

West Augustine Nuisance Abatement Board (1)
Purpose of Committee: To conduct hearings regarding complaints of public nuisance within the West Augustine CRA. Also, promote, protect, and improve the health, safety and welfare of the citizens and businesses within the West Augustine Community Revitalization Area (CRA).
Qualifications: Applicants must be a County resident for at least one year, 18 years or older, residing within or operating a business or organization within the West Augustine CRA and exhibit interest in enforcing the Nuisance Abatement Ordinance and civic duty. Must file financial disclosure.
Term: Regular members as well as alternates serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This board meets quarterly or more often as need arises.

Northwest Communication Tower Advisory Board – 2 Regular Members
Purpose of Committee: Review proposals for expenditure of income derived from the lease of Mills Field property.
Qualifications:

  • Seeking applicants who reside in the portion of St. Johns County bounded on the east by the westerly right-of-way of I-95; bounded on the south by the northerly right-of-way of CR 210 (from I-95 to Greenbrier Road); and by the northerly right-of-way of Greenbrier Road and its westerly extension (to the westerly boundary of St. Johns County); bounded on the west and north by the County line, who would also need to fill the below requirements.
  • (1 Regular) Applicant who has a passive recreation interest (i.e. garden club member, member of environmental group OR (1 Regular) Applicant who is a representative of the Civic Association.

Term: Regular members serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets quarterly at the Hart House/Beluthahatchee Park, located at 1501 S. R. 13 North, Fruit Cove, FL 32259.

Fire Code Board of Appeals – 8 Members: 3 Regular & 5 Alternates
Purpose of Committee: To rule on matters relating to the Fire Code and its enforcement in accordance with NFPA Section 1.10.
Qualifications: Applicant must be a County resident.  Seeking those with experience in one of the following: Engineering or architectural design; General contracting; Fire protection contracting; Building code enforcement; and Legal.
Meeting Schedule: Meetings of the Board of Appeals shall be held quarterly on the 3rd Monday of March, June, September, and December at 1:00 PM in Conference room 1, of the St. Johns County Permit center. Located at: 4040 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine, FL 32084.

Mid-Anastasia Design Review Board – 6 Members: 4 Regular and 2 Alternate
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the Mid-Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect natural resources, maintain and enhance the diverse and unique character of the Mid-Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board’s (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.08.00 Mid-Anastasia Overlay District of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications: Must be a St. Johns County resident demonstrating interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community. Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience or education in design, architecture or history of the Mid- Anastasia community. 

  • Seeking applicants residing within the Overlay District, on Anastasia Island and north of Weff Road and Satsuma Avenue.
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Thursday of every month at 3:00pm in the County Permit Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.

South Anastasia Design Review Board – 2 Alternates
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the South Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect and preserve the “Old Florida” style, rural beach community in the South Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board’s (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.07.00 South Anastasia Overlay of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications:

  • Must be a St. Johns County resident who has shown an interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community.    
  • All members shall meet the Membership Area overlay residency requirements which are to reside on Anastasia Island south of Dondanville Road. 
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the County Permits Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.
