Over 200 men and women provide fire and rescue services to citizens and visitors of St. Johns County. Our combined department encompasses 18 fire rescue stations over 608 square miles, responding to more than 19,000 calls each year for service. Over 80% of these calls are medical in nature. St. Johns County Fire Rescue is a growing department dedicated to providing those services of a progressive fire rescue system. St. Johns County Fire Rescue continually seeks qualified Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic. The department provides fire suppression, prevention, inspection, and ALS rescue services for a resident population base of 209,000 covering 608 square miles. St. Johns County boasts 42 miles of coastline and is home to historic St. Augustine, the “nations oldest city”. This is a shift level position (24/48) primarily concerned with emergency and non-emergency activities inclusive of fire suppression, emergency medical rescue, fire prevention, special operations to include USAR, ocean rescue and hazardous materials response and the life safety education/planning/enforcement components of Fire-Rescue operations. To be eligible for the position of Firefighter for St. Johns County Fire Rescue, you must meet the following qualifications. • Possess and maintain current Florida EMT or Paramedic certification • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support card • Possess and maintain current Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance • Possess a valid Class “E” Florida Driver’s License • Driving record must meet the Department requirements for hire concerning Class A and Class B offenses. • Be a nonuser of tobacco products for at least one year immediately preceding application, as evidenced by sworn affidavit. (Florida Statute 633.34) • Successful completion of the Firefighters Abilities Test administered by the First Coast Technical College or any other Florida municipality or county which utilized the Firefighter-Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) • Must pass medical exam (NFPA 1582) after conditional job offer is made.
