Helping Local Businesses, Residents, and Nonprofits recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19.
The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners created St. Johns County CARES to help local businesses, residents, and nonprofits respond to and recover from the economic impact caused by COVID-19. A financial assistance program utilizing more than $18 million in federal CARES Act funding, St. Johns County CARES provides grants to eligible applicants who suffered loss of revenue or income due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

St. Johns County CARES Nonprofit Grant Program Phase II Launches October 19, 2020 – St. Johns County will launch phase II of the St. Johns County CARES Nonprofit Grant Program on October 19, 2020, to help eligible nonprofit agencies respond to the community impact of COVID-19. St. Johns County 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations may be eligible for grant funds to use for COVID-related services provided to the community and expenses related to providing those services.

St. Johns County CARES Small Business Recovery Program Phase II Launches October 19, 2020 – St. Johns County is launching phase II of the St. Johns County CARES Small Business Recovery program at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 19. The St. Johns County CARES Small Business Recovery Program helps local businesses respond to and recover from the economic impact of COVID-19. To be eligible, a business must not have received a cumulative total of COVID-19 financial assistance from St. Johns County in 2020 that exceeds $5,000 for business with 0 to 9 employees, $10,000 for businesses with 10 to 30 employees, $15,000 for businesses with 31 to 50 employees or $20,000 for businesses with 51 to 100 employees.

St. Johns County CARES Residents Assistance Program Deadline Approaching – The deadline to submit applications for the St. Johns County CARES Residents Assistance program is 5 p.m. on October 31.  Eligible St. Johns County residents are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible to ensure the application process is complete prior to the deadline.

Small Businesses

Eligible St. Johns County small businesses may qualify for up to $20,000 in St. Johns County CARES grant funding for expenses related to mortgage or rent, utilities, payroll, PPE equipment, facility hardening, and sanitizing/cleaning supplies. To qualify, a business must have been operational on or before March 1, 2020, and have no more than 100 employees as of July 1, 2020. Business grant amounts are determined based on the number of employees. To apply for a St. Johns County CARES small business recovery grant, please call 904.209.6050 or email sjccares@sjcfl.us.

Residents

St. Johns County residents may be eligible to receive up to $5,000 in St. Johns County CARES funding to assist with mortgage or rent, utilities, cellphone bills, and internet bills. Applicants must provide proof that COVID-19 had an impact of 25% or greater on their finances and provide a bank statement reflecting that impact. Only one application per household will be accepted, and the applicant must be a resident of St. Johns County. Applications for St. Johns County CARES resident recovery grants are available online. Nonprofits

St. Johns County 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations may be eligible for a St. Johns County CARES Nonprofit Assistance Grant for expenses related to increased community service needs resulting from COVID-19. Nonprofit grant award amounts are determined by the organizational need as demonstrated in a one-to-three page request letter submitted as part of the application. Not-for-profit organizations that do not possess a 501(c)3 are not eligible to apply for a St. Johns County CARES grant. St. Johns County Cares applications are most effectively completed on desktop computers, laptop computers, and tablets. It is not recommended that applications be completed on cell phones due to compatibility issues affecting the submission process.
