Who participates in the 2020 Census?

Everyone participates, because everyone counts. If you are a resident of St. Johns County, you should be counted.

How can I participate in the Census?

Residents will receive census response notifications in the mail beginning March 2020 with instructions on how to self-enumerate themselves as well as every member of the household.

By April 1, 2020, every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. You will have three options for responding:

  • Online.
  • By phone.
  • By mail.

Can I respond online?

Yes. The 2020 Census marks the first time you'll have the option to respond online. You can even respond on your mobile device.

What if I live in an apartment, rental home, dorm, assisted living facility, etc.?

Residential structures, such as apartments, condominiums, mobile homes, duplexes, triplexes, and houses (owned or rented) are considered "households" and all members of which should be counted and reported via the census questionnaire. Rental home tenants will fill out the questionnaire sent to the home, not the property owners.

What if I live in group quarters?

Individuals who reside in group quarter living facilities such as dormitories, assisted living facilities, residential rehab centers, shelters, jails, etc., will be counted through a designated administrator who captures and reports the facilities residents.
