St. Johns County is currently accepting applications for the following volunteer Board and Committee vacancies. Please call (904) 209-0300 for more information or to obtain an application.

Value Adjustment Board (1 Member)
Purpose of Committee: To hear petitions relating to assessments filed, complaints relating to homestead exemptions, appeals from exemptions denied or disputes arising from exemptions granted, and appeals concerning ad valorem tax deferrals and classifications.
Qualifications: Must be a citizen owning homestead property within St. Johns County. The citizen member appointed may not be a member or employee of any taxing authority, and may not be a person who represents property owners in any administrative or judicial review of property taxes.
Meeting schedule: This Board meets on an as needed basis up to four or five times a year in the County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View.

Planning and Zoning Agency (1)
Purpose of Committee: Advisory capacity and recommending body to the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners on matters relating to zoning of land, amendment of Land Development Regulations, Land Use amendments and Major Modifications to Planned Unit Developments and Planned Rural Developments, including those functions as the County's Local Planning Agency per Chapter 163, Florida Statutes.
Qualifications: Must be a register voter in St Johns County.  Members must file financial disclosure.
Meeting schedule: This Board meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 1:30pm in the County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View.

Architectural Review Committee (3 Regular Members and 2 Alternate)
Purpose of Committee: To ensure enhanced property development while maintaining and encouraging quality character of design within the Ponte Vedra and Ponte Vedra /Palm Valley Overlay Districts in line with the goals and objectives of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan.
Qualifications:

  • Must be a registered voter in St Johns County.
  • Seeking applicants competent in the fields of architecture, design, planning, landscape architecture or other relevant expertise who would also need to fill the below requirements.
  • Seeking applicants who reside in the Ponte Vedra Zoning District
    -OR-
  • Seeking applicants who reside in District 4, but outside of the Ponte Vedra Zoning District.

Term: Regular members as well as alternates serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This committee meets every fourth Wednesday of each month from 5–8:30 p.m. in the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

South Anastasia Design Review Board (3 Members and 2 Alternates)
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the South Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect and preserve the "Old Florida" style, rural beach community in the South Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board's (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.07.00 South Anastasia Overlay of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications:

  • Must be a St. Johns County resident who has shown an interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community.
  • Prefer at least one regular member who owns or operates an active business with a physical presence within the District and meet the Membership Area overlay residency requirements.  In the event there are no qualified applicants for this position, an applicant that meets the Membership Area overlay residency requirements may be appointed.
  • All other members shall meet the Membership Area overlay residency requirements which are to reside on Anastasia Island south of Dondanville Road.
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Term: All members shall serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the County Permits Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.

Mid - Anastasia Design Review Board (7 - 5 Regular and 2 Alternate)
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the Mid-Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect natural resources, maintain and enhance the diverse and unique character of the Mid-Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board's (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.08.00 Mid-Anastasia Overlay District of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications: Must be a St. Johns County resident demonstrating interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community. Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience or education in design, architecture or history of the Mid- Anastasia community.

  • Seeking applicants residing within the Overlay District, on Anastasia Island and north of Weff Road and Satsuma Avenue.
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Term: Regular members as well as alternates serve a term of four (4) years. 
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Thursday of every month at 3:00pm in the County Permit Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.

North Coastal Corridor Overlay District Design Review Board (2 Regular Members)
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the North Coastal Design Review Board is to maintain, protect and enhance the diverse and unique character of the North Coastal Corridor and its established beach community, respect the well-documented history of the area and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board's (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.09.00 North Coastal Overlay District and Part 3.10.00 Vilano Beach Town Center Overlay of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications:

  • Must be a St. Johns County resident demonstrating interest in the history and design of the North Coastal and Vilano Community.
  • Applicant must have experience and expertise in architecture, design, planning, landscape architecture, history or other relevant expertise of the North Coastal and Vilano Community. 
  • Applicant must meet the membership area residency requirements: Members must reside within the North Coastal Overlay District or within the Vilano Town Center Mixed Use Overlay District.
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Term: Regular members as well as alternates serve a four (4) year term.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 4:00pm. In the County Permit Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.
