St. Johns County is currently accepting applications for the following volunteer Board and Committee vacancies. Please call (904) 209-0300 for more information or to obtain an application.

Affordable Housing Advisory Committee – 1 Regular Member
Purpose of Committee: To review established policies and procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, and adopted local government comprehensive plan and recommend specific action or initiatives to encourage or facilitate affordable housing while protecting the ability of the property to appreciate in value.
Qualifications:

  • Seeking applicants who reside in St. Johns County and that are Essential Service Personnel, which means any person in need of affordable housing, who is a permanent employee (excluding temporary and on-call employees) of a company or organization located within St. Johns County, including teachers and educators, police and fire personnel, health care personnel and skilled building trades personnel.

Meeting Schedule: This Committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Contractors Review Board – 4 Members
Purpose of Board: To insure proper administration of contractor licensing and discipline of licensed and unlicensed construction workers.
Qualifications: Applicants must be a resident of St. Johns County for at least two years prior to appointment on the Board.

  • Seeking one (1) applicant whom is licensed as a Certified or Registered Pool Contractor.
  • Seeking one (1) applicant whom is licensed as a Certified or Registered Electrical Contractor.
  • Seeking two (2) applicants as a citizen/resident member.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets on the 4th Thursday of each month at 5:00pm in the County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View.

Tourist Development Council – 2 Members
Purpose of Committee: Recommend funding of facilities, programs, or contracts which are primarily for the purpose of and related to the development, advancement, furtherance, improvement, or promotion of tourism.
Qualifications:  Seeking applicants who are an owner or operator of motels, hotels, or other tourist accommodations subject to the bed tax and persons involved in tourist related businesses other than accommodations. Applicants must be registered voters in St. Johns County.

Fire Code Board of Appeals – 8 Members: 3 Regular & 5 Alternates
Purpose of Committee: To rule on matters relating to the Fire Code and its enforcement in accordance with NFPA Section 1.10.
Qualifications: Applicant must be a County resident.  Seeking those with experience in one of the following: Engineering or architectural design; General contracting; Fire protection contracting; Building code enforcement; and Legal.
Meeting Schedule: Meetings of the Board of Appeals shall be held quarterly on the 3rd Monday of March, June, September, and December at 1:00 PM in Conference room 1, of the St. Johns County Permit center. Located at: 4040 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine, FL 32084.

Mid - Anastasia Design Review Board – 6 Members: 4 Regular and 2 Alternate
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the Mid-Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect natural resources, maintain and enhance the diverse and unique character of the Mid-Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board’s (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.08.00 Mid-Anastasia Overlay District of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications: Must be a St. Johns County resident demonstrating interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community. Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience or education in design, architecture or history of the Mid- Anastasia community. 

  • Seeking applicants residing within the Overlay District, on Anastasia Island and north of Weff Road and Satsuma Avenue.
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Thursday of every month at 3:00pm in the County Permit Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.

South Anastasia Design Review Board – 2 Alternates
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the South Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect and preserve the “Old Florida” style, rural beach community in the South Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board’s (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.07.00 South Anastasia Overlay of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications:

  • Must be a St. Johns County resident who has shown an interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community.    
  • All members shall meet the Membership Area overlay residency requirements which are to reside on Anastasia Island south of Dondanville Road. 
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the County Permits Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.
