The reality of being elected and the breadth of the responsibility of this position are being pursued and fulfilled with prayer, fervor, and enthusiasm. I am here to serve. Commissioner Jeb S. Smith
Republican, Term Expires: 2022
Jeb Smith is a lifelong resident and business owner in St. Johns County. A fifth generation farmer in Hastings, Jeb is a producer of cattle, hay, and sod. His family has lived, been educated, and worked in St. Johns County for over 100 years.
Actively involved in the agricultural community, Jeb serves in multiple capacities representing the industry. He actively serves on the Putnam-St. Johns County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and is a State Director for District 10 of the Florida Farm Bureau. Nationally, he has served in an advisory capacity with the American Farm Bureau. Locally, Jeb has served or is serving on the Hastings Drainage District, the Farm Service Agency, St. Johns County Overall Extension Advisory Committee, the 4-H Association Board of Directors, and the Rodeheaver Boys Ranch Board of Directors.
After graduating from St. Augustine High School, Jeb continued his pursuit of higher education at the University of Florida with a focus on Food and Resource Economics. He then transferred to Ambassador Baptist College in Shelby, North Carolina, and pursued a degree in Pastoral Studies. He has since served as a youth pastor and professor of theology at the Deland School of the Bible. He is now the pastor of God's Way Baptist Church in Hastings which he founded in 2005.
Some of the prominent recognition Jeb has received includes the Outstanding Young Farmer and Rancher Achievement Award and the Discussion Meet Award from the Florida Farm Bureau.
Jeb and his wife, Wendy, have been happily married for over twenty-six years. They have four children: Jared, Cady, Jeremy, and Cayla. All four were home educated, participated in high school sports, and involved in 4-H. Two now have their bachelor degrees and are in the workplace.
Jeb is serving in his second term as County Commissioner for District 2. He has served and is serving as the chairman and has been the vice chairman twice for the Board. Likewise, he has participated in the Industrial Development Authority, Health and Human Services Advisory Committee, the Housing Finance Authority, the State of Florida Health Department Health Leadership Council, the Early Learning Coalition, and the Value Adjustment Board chairman.
