SR A1A Landscaping Renovations

Description

In the 2000s, the St. Johns County Board of Commissioners requested landscaping be placed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in the medians of SR A1A from Fairfield Blvd. to the Duval County line. The FDOT required the landscaping be maintained by St. Johns County at no cost to the FDOT. An agreement was executed between the FDOT and St. Johns County for the maintenance of this landscaping in 2008. Portions of the landscaping have exceeded their expected life cycle and have deteriorated to a condition that is no longer aesthetically pleasing. These portions of landscaping require significantly more maintenance than other portions and have fallen out of common roadway landscaping in favor of landscaping that is more aesthetically pleasing and less costly to maintain. This project will renovate the landscaping to remove the deteriorated portions and restore the areas to a more aesthetically pleasing and lower maintenance condition. The Fiscal Year 2025 budget for this project is $403,978.
