K9 Garrett

St. Johns County Fire Rescue announced the implementation of a Therapy K9 program in December 2021. This program has been many months in the making and has the support of the County and Fire Rescue Administration.

Learn more about the Station Dog Program

In partnership with K9’s for Warriors and St. Johns County Animal Control, Fire Rescue placed a Therapy K9 into our Department’s service. K9 Garrett is available for deployment to provide additional support during CISM debriefs, daily interaction in station life, deploy to stations after difficult calls, and be available for rehab areas during significant incidents.

With our job as First Responders, we receive wounds in the form of PTSD from years of exposure to traumatic events. Through this program, K9 Garrett can provide mental health support to our personnel.

Combining this program with our existing Peer Counseling and EAP will afford us another line of defense and a way to help heal the scars from years of service to the community.
