The Spring 2026 SJC 101 Citizens Academy class registration is at capacity. Please submit a registration form to join the waitlist for the Fall 2026 class.

The SJC 101 Citizens Academy is designed to support the St. Johns County Strategic Plan adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in 2025.

SJC 101 is open to St. Johns County residents and business owners.

Goals

The goals of SJC 101 are to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of County departments and their operations, to build social engagement by creating advocates for the County’s programs and services, and to develop new leadership to serve on County advisory boards or other roles within the community.

  • March 19 – Community Week – (UF IFAS) Agriculture Life/Extension Services, District 23 Medical Examiner, Community and Destination Development
  • March 26 – Transparency and Innovation Week – Office of Public Affairs, Economic Development, Office of Performance and Transparency
  • April 2 – Support Services Week – Human Resources, Purchasing, Land Management, Facilities
  • April 9 – Health and Human Services Week – Social Services, Family Integrity Program, Housing and Community Services, Veteran Services
  • April 16 – Utilities Week – Utilities – Utilities Headquarters
  • April 23 – Enrichment Week – Animal Control, Public Library System
  • April 30 – Public Safety Week – Emergency Management, Fire Rescue
  • May 7 – Recreation Week – Parks and Recreation, Beaches, Coastal Management
  • May 14 – Public Works Week – Public Works – Public Works Headquarters
  • May 21 – Administration and Budget Week – Administration, Office of Management and Budget
  • June 2 – Graduate Recognition by the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners

SJC 101 graduates are encouraged to continue civic engagement by applying online to volunteer for St. Johns County boards and committees (Appointed Boards and Committees – St. Johns County).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to attend each class?

SJC 101 students must attend 9 of the 12 weeks (75%) to graduate from the program and be recognized.

What should I wear?

This is a casual opportunity to learn more about us and for us to learn about you. Feel free to dress as you are most comfortable. We will be in a classroom setting and take walking tours of operations and equipment.

What should I expect for each class?

Each week will be different depending on the involved County departments and services being showcased.

Will the SJC 101 Citizens Academy return?

Yes. The SJC 101 Citizens Academy will take place annually in the Spring and Fall, with 30 new students selected from the registration list on a first-come, first-served basis.

*Please note: Submitting an application for SJC 101 Class Registration does not guarantee an individual a spot in the next SJC 101 program. Program participation is limited to the first 30 eligible applicants as determined by St. Johns County. Subsequent applicants will be placed on a waiting list for the next available SJC 101.
