SJC Announces Fully Operational Traffic Signal at State Road 207 and Brinkhoff Road

New signal improves safety, efficiency, and pedestrian access

The new traffic signal at the intersection of State Road 207 and Brinkhoff Road/Twin Lakes Drive is now fully operational, marking a major milestone in St. Johns County Public Works’ ongoing improvement projects in the area. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to capture the project.

“We are six months into an improvement project at Brinkhoff Road between Twin Lakes Drive and State Road 207,” said Darren Shannon, Project Manager for St. Johns County Public Works. “With the help of St. Johns County and the contractor Chinchor, the signal drivers now see is fully operational.”

The new signal is designed to function like others along State Road 207, providing drivers with adequate time to safely proceed across the intersection. Left-turn movements are now more efficient and predictable, and the addition of a pedestrian crosswalk significantly enhances safety for those traveling on foot.

This is a welcome change for nearby residents and students, as there were previously no pedestrian crossings within a mile of the intersection in either direction. The new crosswalk offers a safer route for students attending a nearby charter school that does not provide bus transportation.

“These upgrades will improve both traffic and pedestrian movement at the intersection,” Shannon added. “This intersection is now much more efficient, but we encourage drivers to exercise caution while adjusting to the new changes in the area.”

The project represents St. Johns County Public Work’s continued commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and safety across the county.
