West Augustine Health and Wellness Center Nears Completion as County, Partners Celebrate Progress

St. Johns County officials and community partners recently toured the West Augustine Health and Wellness Center, a major community project currently under construction and anticipated to open in early 2026. The visit showcased the progress of the facility and highlighted the extensive local involvement that has helped move the project forward. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to capture the tour.

The center’s development stems from years of grassroots work led by the West Augustine Historical Community Development Corporation, a nonprofit established in 2010 to support residents through programs providing school supplies, clothing, food, and other essentials. As community leaders examined local health data showing higher rates of infant mortality, HIV, cancer, and other serious conditions in the Historic West Augustine area, the vision for a comprehensive health and wellness hub began to take shape.

“It means everything to have so much support for this local project, not only from the community, but also from the contractors, lobbyists, and legislature,” said Sarah Arnold, District 2 Commissioner. “Everybody came together to make this such an incredible project that’s going to have generational change for the community of West Augustine.”

The tour brought together current and former members of the County’s legislative delegation, along with local partners who have contributed to the project’s momentum. Officials emphasized that the Health and Wellness Center has been strengthened by consistent community support, participation from local contractors, and collaboration with advocates who have championed the effort for years.

Participants also noted the thoughtful design of the facility, which will bring multiple service providers together in a coordinated and clearly defined layout. Once completed, the center is expected to play a significant role in improving long-term health outcomes and overall quality of life for West Augustine residents, with benefits projected to have generational impact.

St. Johns County joined the West Augustine Historical Community Development Corporation, the West Augustine Community Redevelopment Agency, the Central Florida Community Development Corporation, and other partners for a groundbreaking ceremony for the facility in September 2024. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video capturing that event as well.
