Two Special Meetings will provide residents an opportunity to review and comment on proposed millage rates and County budget

The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners will hold two Special Meetings in September to consider and adopt the County’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget, providing residents with opportunities to review the proposed budget and participate in the public hearing process.

The first Special Meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 3, at 5:01 p.m. 

The second and final Special Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 5:01 p.m.

Both will be held in the County Auditorium at the St. Johns County Administration Building, located at 500 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine. Residents who are unable to attend the meetings in person can watch them through the County’s GovTV, Facebook, and YouTube platforms.

The meetings are part of the County’s annual budget process and will include presentations on the proposed millage rates and Fiscal Year 2027 budget. The Board will consider public input before taking final action on the County’s budget and millage rates.

The Fiscal Year 2027 budget process began with a series of public Administrator’s Budget Workshops in May, during which County departments and community partners presented their priorities, services, and funding requests. The workshops were livestreamed, televised, and archived to provide residents with direct access to the County’s budget development process.

County Administration subsequently presented the Fiscal Year 2027 Recommended Budget to the Board on July 21. The Board also considered proposed millage rates necessary to fund the tentative budget. Under the County’s established budget process, the proposed millage rates serve as ceiling rates and may be reduced during the September public hearings.

The FY2027 budget advances all six priorities identified in the St. Johns County Strategic Plan: Community Trust, Community Well-Being, Economic Prosperity, Enhance Conservation, Infrastructure, and Organizational Excellence.

The budget development process has included discussions about investments in public safety, infrastructure, utilities, parks, libraries, conservation, economic development, and other services that support the County’s well-being and long-term financial sustainability.

The public hearings represent the final stage of the County’s annual budget process before the Board adopts the Fiscal Year 2027 budget, which takes effect Oct. 1, 2026.
