St. Johns County Presents Proclamation in Support of Best Foot Forward for Pedestrian Safety

Commissioner Taylor presented a Proclamation on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners

At the July 21, 2026, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, Commissioner Ann Taylor presented a proclamation on behalf of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, in support of Best Foot Forward for Pedestrian Safety.

Best Foot Forward, the nation’s largest grassroots pedestrian safety initiative, partners with communities across Florida to make crosswalks safer by increasing the number of drivers who stop for people crossing.

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, St. Johns County is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all its residents and visitors, recognizing the importance of safe, accessible, and efficient transportation systems; and

WHEREAS, the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) supports initiatives aligned with Vision Zero principles, aiming to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries, with particular attention to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and bicyclists; and

WHEREAS, the Best Foot Forward for Pedestrian Safety Program is a data-driven initiative that combines community education, high-visibility enforcement, and low-cost engineering recommendations to improve driver compliance with pedestrian right-of-way laws, thereby reducing pedestrian injuries and fatalities; and

WHEREAS, implementing the Best Foot Forward Program in St. Johns County will complement existing safety efforts, including St. Johns County’s traffic operations and crash trend evaluation activities, Complete Streets planning approaches, Vision Zero‑aligned strategies, and actions supported by the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant to advance data‑driven safety planning; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida, that they enthusiastically support

BEST FOOT FORWARD

FOR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

Recognizing the principles and practices of Best Foot Forward for Pedestrian Safety Program and joining with other local cities, counties, law enforcement agencies, regional planning agencies, and Florida Department of Transportation in a regional effort to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida this 21st day of July 2026.
