Commissioner Taylor Discusses Leadership and Service with Webelos Scouts

On January 5, 2026, Commissioner Ann Taylor visited St. Francis in-the-Field Episcopal Church to speak with fourth-grade Webelos Scouts. As part of their rank requirements, scouts were required to meet with an elected official. Scout officials said participants discussed three core topics: why Taylor chose to serve, how she was elected, and her key responsibilities while in office. Taylor expressed how excited she was to meet the young leaders.

“They were really engaging, and they answered my questions. They’re just great, great, great kids,” Taylor said. “I could not be more excited by the questions they asked.”

The vice chair shared how the event served as a reminder of why she is passionate about public service. In a call to action, Taylor encouraged the young scouts to stay engaged and be the change they want to see in their community. She gave the example of students who pushed for the prohibition of smoking and vaping at St. Johns County beaches. The ordinance was amended in December 2025.

“If there’s something they’re passionate about, or something they want to change or do differently, it’s important not to just sit back and watch other people do it, but to actually be engaged and step forward,” Taylor said. “They should be involved as much as they can.”

The pack included scouts from Palencia Elementary School, Pine Island Academy, Valley Ridge Academy, and Palm Valley Academy.
