Commissioner Whitehurst Presents William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway Month Proclamation

The William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway is now celebrating its 20th year following its official designation as a Florida Scenic Highway in 2005.

At the June 17, 2025 St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway Month Proclamation was presented by Commissioner Christian Whitehurst, District 1, to Joe McAnarney, Al & Phillis Abbatiello, and Angie McFarland, all members of the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway, Inc.

Here is the Proclamation:

WHEREAS, the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway, Inc. organization works tirelessly to protect, preserve, and promote the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway and the American Heritage St. Johns River, while supporting the county’s efforts to promote the safety of residents and travelers along State Road 13 and the St Johns River in western St Johns County; and

WHEREAS, the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway, Inc organization attempts to further its mission by partnering with schools, public events, St. Johns County, State agencies, and other Historical Resources; and

WHEREAS, the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway is a designated Florida Scenic Highway under the Florida Department of Transportation’s Scenic Highways Program, supporting the concept that St Johns County is “Scenic from Ocean’s Shore to River’s Edge;” and

WHEREAS, the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway is now celebrating its 20th year following its official designation as a Florida Scenic Highway in 2005 and is one of 27 designated scenic highways across Florida; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of County Commissioners

of St. Johns County, Florida that June 2025 be recognized as:

William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway’s

20th Anniversary Celebration

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida this 17th day of June 2025.
