Nearly $580,000 project made Crescent Beach more accessible
On July 23, St. Johns County celebrated the addition of an ADA-accessible walkover and a parking lot expansion to Crescent Beachfront Park (6930 A1A S./Cubbedge Road, St. Augustine) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to commemorate the event.
The project’s nearly $580,000 in construction costs not only built a walkover with ramps to get people in beach wheelchairs (rentable from St. Johns County Beach Services) to the sand with ease, but also added 26 more parking spaces to the parking lot.
District 5 Commissioner Ann Taylor attended the ceremony, along with various St. Johns County administrators and staff and several Crescent Beach area locals.
“One of the priorities of our strategic plan is community wellbeing,” Commissioner Taylor said. “Expanding access to safe public spaces, having diverse recreational facilities… so, it’s more than just a path to the beach. It’s a path to inclusion for every member of our St. Johns County community.”
“To be able to expand those opportunities for residents across the board and get people to come out and enjoy one of our best assets, the beach, is our goal,” Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Kane said. “What we’re trying to do… is provide those outlets for people to come out here and enjoy their quality of life.”
