Office of Intergovernmental Affairs

Overview

The Office of Intergovernmental Affairs develops and executes strategies to secure appropriations, competitive funding, and partnerships for capital improvement projects prioritized by the St. Johns Board of County Commissioners. As directed by the Board, the Office advocates for and against public policies that may affect St. Johns County. The Office also cultivates new and strengthens existing relationships within the Florida Legislature, the Executive Office of the Governor, State and Federal agencies, the United States Congress, state constitutional officers, regional governmental organizations, local governments, and other stakeholders.

Mission Statement – To build trusted relationships, assure sound legislative strategies, deliver professional guidance and seek innovative funding opportunities to provide, protect and preserve the unique needs of St. Johns County.

Vision Statement – To provide exceptional knowledge, skills and ability to assist in meeting the diverse needs of all St. Johns County’s governmental departments and partners.

On Friday, June 21, 2024 St. Johns County hosted a community forum, a boat tour with elected officials, and a press conference to address stormwater flooding in the North Beach area neighborhoods caused by outfalls from the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). The event was attended by Joy Andrews, St. Johns County Administrator; Greg Caldwell, St. Johns County Public Works Director; Henry Dean, St. Johns County District 5 Commissioner; Rep. Cyndi Stevenson, Florida House of Representatives, District 17; and U.S. Congressman John H. Rutherford, U.S. House of Representatives, District 5. The County’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs will be seeking state and federal funds later this year to complete the project.
Fiscal Year 2024 Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing Grant Application

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Fiscal Year 2024 Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) grant program and staff have identified an eligible project to apply for funding. The grant program provides Federal funding to support projects and activities that reduce barriers to affordable housing in underserved communities. The West Augustine Affordable Housing project is an eligible project under the terms of the NOFO. In accordance with the NOFO, applicants are required to publish a draft of their PRO Housing application for public comment for 15 days and provide ongoing public access to information about the use of grant funds. The public is invited to submit comments Kristin Crane in the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
