St. Johns County Fire Rescue Recognizes Gabriel Caez and Kyle Atwater for Life-Saving Efforts

On April 21, 2023, St. Johns County residents Gabriel Caez and Kyle Atwater helped save the lives of several people involved in a motor vehicle accident while driving on International Golf Parkway. They found a multi-vehicle accident with multiple occupants injured including one vehicle that was on fire and a second vehicle that had rolled over. Their heroic efforts aided St. Johns County Fire Rescue in responding at the scene. In recognition of their actions, Gabriel and Kyle were presented with a Certificate of Commendation by St. Johns County Fire Rescue Chief Scott Bullard and Operations Chief Patrick Welch at the June 20, 2023, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners meeting.

Without hesitation, Gabriel and Kyle rushed to the vehicles and assisted in helping the occupants escape. An occupant was trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Gabriel and Kyle assisted in lifting and rolling the vehicle over to free the occupant, saving precious time that allowed responding EMS professionals to administer medical care upon arrival.

“Gabriel and Kyle demonstrated quick thinking and selfless courage without concern for their own safety, displaying remarkable character,” St. Johns County Fire Rescue Chief Scott Bullard said.
