Intersection Improvements Completed at Colonnade Drive and Preservation Trail
New traffic signal and pedestrian and golf cart crossings improve connectivity and traffic operations in Nocatee

St. Johns County has completed intersection improvements at Preservation Trail, Colonnade Boulevard and Palm Valley Road in Nocatee, including a new fully operational traffic signal and dedicated pedestrian and golf cart crossings designed to improve accessibility, connectivity and traffic flow for the surrounding community. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video highlighting the completed project and its community benefits.
Colonnade Drive and Preservation Trail serve as primary neighborhood connectors within Nocatee, carrying consistent daily residential traffic with increased volumes during school and commuter hours. The new signal provides designated phases for vehicles traveling through the intersection, creating more predictable traffic movements and helping motorists navigate the area more efficiently.
“This project is really about making the intersection easier and more predictable for everyone who uses it,” said Michael Likley, Project Manager for the St. Johns County Public Works Traffic and Transportation Department. “Whether you’re driving, walking or using a golf cart, the signalization provides clearly defined movements that make it easier for everyone to navigate the intersection.”
Prior to moving forward with the project, St. Johns County conducted a traffic signal warrant analysis based on federal guidelines established in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The intersection met signal warrants based on traffic volumes, allowing the project to move forward.
The project also provides a protected crossing phase for pedestrians and golf carts. The crossing connects neighborhoods throughout Nocatee and provides residents with improved access to nearby parks, recreational facilities, shopping and restaurants. It was incorporated into the project to accommodate the golf cart traffic within the community.
“You can see a big improvement in the way traffic moves through the intersection,” Likley said. “The signal provides each movement with its own designated phase, which keeps traffic moving and gives motorists a clear understanding of when it’s their turn to proceed.”
Construction began in February 2026 and was completed in August 2026.
