Junior Lifeguard Program
2024 Program Information
2024 program is full and registration is closed.
The St. Johns County Junior Lifeguard program is open individuals 9-16 years old. The program is staffed by St. Johns County certified Open Water Lifeguards. We focus on providing water safety education in an environment that is fun while building teamwork, physical conditioning and respect for each other and the environment.

- Junior Membership – United States Lifesaving Association
- First Aid Lessons and CPR Certification
- Lifeguard Rescue Skills – Swimming, Paddleboard and PWC
- Surfing / Bodyboarding
- Lifeguard competitions and beach games
- Weekly cookout and awards celebration
REGISTRATION IS CLOSED
Location: Marine Rescue Headquarters, 366 A1A Beach Blvd, St. Augustine, Florida 32080
Date: Saturday, March 23 at 9am
Time: Opens at 9am
Required Form: Registration forms must be submitted in person at the registration on March 23.
Payment: You will be sent a link for payment once you have a confirmed spot!
Tryouts
Please note: All 1st Year Participants Are Required To Attend a Tryout Prior to Registering!
If you are registering for Session V and are not at least 13 years old they must pass the advanced tryout. The advanced tryout can be completed at any tryout time. All other returning Junior Lifeguards are NOT required to attend a tryout.
Location: Solomon Calhoun Pool
Dates:
- Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 10am
- Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 10am
- Saturday, March 16, 2024 at10am
Skills: Swim 100 yards without stopping / 5 minute water tread / 10 yard underwater swim
Please note: We will not accept any registration forms at the time of the tryouts. Registration will only be done on TBD
Tryouts consist of:
- Swimming 100 meters unassisted
- Swimming 10 meters underwater
- Treading water for 5 minutes
Session Dates
- Session I: Monday, June 3 – Friday, June 7
- Open to 9-16 year olds
- Session II: Monday, June 10 – Friday, June 14
- Open to 9-16 year olds
- Session III: Monday, June 17 – Friday, June 21
- Open to 9-16 year olds
- Session IV: (Young Group) Monday, June 24 – Friday, June 28
- 8-11 year olds only
- Session V: (Older Group / Advanced Session) Monday, July 8 – Friday ,July 12
- Open to 13-16 year olds only or advanced tryout
- Advanced tryout – 300 meter swim under 8 minutes, 5 minute water tread

$150.00 per child per session
