Masters Drive Temporary Closure

St. Johns County will temporarily close Masters Drive from Sunday, February 18th, to Sunday, March 31st, weather permitting, to replace an existing box culvert across Masters Drive. Construction will require a complete closure of Masters Drive at the location of the affected culvert, about 300 feet south of the State Road 16 and Masters Drive Intersection. Detours will be established with necessary signage to provide advanced warning and directions for roadway users.

“Communications with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Rescue, School Board Transportation, and other critical service providers have taken place prior to the closure to ensure County operations are coordinated,” St. Johns County Public Works Director Greg Caldwell said.

This culvert crossing is part of the $3.8 Million Santa Rosa Drainage Improvement project that is currently being funded by a Community Development Block Grant. The drainage improvements will reduce flooding caused by stormwater and high tides within the Santa Rosa Subdivision.

The scheduled culvert replacement will provide an outfall for the drainage along the westside of Masters Drive and the northside of S.R. 16.  The replacement is necessary due to the age and condition of the existing culvert. The project will also increase the size of the culvert which will reduce the duration of storm impacts.

Additional information regarding this project is available on the County’s public Capital Improvement Program dashboard.

D.B. Civil Construction, Inc. is the contractor and the full drainage improvement project is anticipated for completion in the Spring of 2024.
