Commissioner Joseph presented a proclamation on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners
At the May 5, 2026, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, Commissioner Krista Joseph presented a proclamation on behalf of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, recognizing May 3-9, 2026, as Correctional Officers and Employees Week.
The proclamation was received by Director Caban and staff of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, National Correctional Officers Week was established on May 6, 1984, when President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187, to recognize the dedicated professionals serving in correctional facilities and community corrections throughout the nation; and
WHEREAS, the Corrections Division of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of 239 committed employees who work diligently to ensure the safe and secure operation of the detention center while caring for individuals awaiting trial or court proceedings; and
WHEREAS, these professionals collaborate with healthcare providers and other partners to address the physical and mental health needs, educational development, job training, and reentry preparation of those entrusted to their care; and
WHEREAS, correctional professionals perform their duties in a challenging and demanding environment, carrying the critical responsibility of protecting the public by maintaining facility safety and security while also supporting rehabilitation and successful reintegration of individuals in custody;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida that May 3 – 9, 2026 be recognized as
CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES WEEK
In recognition of the professionalism, dedication, and sacrifices of these individuals who faithfully serve the citizens of St. Johns County.
