St. Johns County Celebrates Start of $12 Million Mill Creek Park Construction with Groundbreaking Ceremony

Today, St. Johns County held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of the construction of Mill Creek Park, located at 4881 SR 16, St. Augustine. This project will feature a multipurpose field, two baseball fields, two softball fields, four batting cages, restrooms, and a concession stand. The project will cost $12 million, funded by Parks Impact Fees through new developments.

The ceremony began with remarks from Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Kane.

“This is the first step in the County really making a big commitment toward Parks and Recreation and the future generations of St. Johns County,” Kane said.

“Today is a celebration of yet another effort by St. Johns County to improve and elevate the quality of life in this community,” District 2 Commissioner Sarah Arnold said. “As we continue to address the infrastructure needs of this growing county with roads, we are also addressing the needs for recreation.”

A ceremonial dirt toss was conducted, which included Board Chairman Christian Whitehurst, Commissioner Arnold, District 3 Commissioner Roy Alaimo, Interim County Administrator Joy Andrews, Assistant County Administrator Sarah Taylor, Interim Assistant County Administrator Colin Groff, Public Works Director Greg Caldwell, and Director Kane.

Construction is anticipated to finish in the fall of 2024, and the park will be open to the public in the winter of 2024.
