St. Johns County Recognizes September 2026 as Library Card Sign-Up Month

Commissioner Joseph presented a Proclamation on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners
At the September 1, 2026, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, Commissioner Krista Joseph presented a proclamation on behalf of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, recognizing September 2026 as Library Card Sign-Up Month.
The proclamation was received by Debra Rhodes Gibson, Director of the St. Johns County Public Library System (SJCPLS) along with library staff.
The SJCPLS is celebrating the value of a library card this September for Library Card Sign-up Month with a special discount campaign featuring local businesses across St. Johns County. The “Community Connections” discount campaign offers SJCPLS library cardholders the opportunity to unlock additional savings throughout the month at more than 115 local businesses.

The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, the power of a library card extends beyond borrowing materials, serving as a gateway to knowledge, creativity, and lifelong learning that enables residents of St. Johns County to pursue their passions, discover new ideas, and become more informed; and
WHEREAS, a library card allows individuals throughout the county to access technology for professional and personal development, strengthening ties between local businesses, entrepreneurs, and the library; and
WHEREAS, the value of a library card continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of the community, providing access to programs, services, and resources that inspire exploration and knowledge; and
WHEREAS, the St. Johns County Public Library System strives to connect our community by transforming and expanding services that enrich lives, foster belonging, promote literacy, and provide access to information for all; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida, that September 2026 be recognized as
Library Card Sign-Up Month
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida this 1st day of September 2026.
