St. Johns County Celebrates the St. Johns County Airport Authority Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Members of the Board of County Commissioners attended the celebration of two new hangars

On February 11, 2026, the St. Johns County Airport Authority hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the St. Augustine Airport to celebrate the completion of two new hangars. The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners was represented by: Chair Clay Murphy, District 3; Vice-Chair Ann Taylor, District 5; and Christian Whitehurst, District 1.

The event included remarks by Nick Primrose, Board Chair, and Courtney K. Pittman, Interim Executive Director. Some of the highlights of the remarks included:

  • The project generated more than 250 jobs.
  • Delivered 19 new T Hangars.
  • A total investment of more than $2.1 million.

“We view this as more than a construction project,” said Pittman. “It is a strategic investment in infrastructure, connectivity, and community value. The benefits will extend to local businesses, residents, and visitors who rely on a safe and efficient aviation system.”

In January 2026, the Northeast Florida Regional Airport announced plans to change its name back to St. Augustine Airport, a move designed to eliminate confusion, better align with the city’s historic and cultural appeal, and strategically position the airport for future growth. This marks a return to the simpler name the airport bore 15 years ago, before it was changed in 2010 to reflect a broader regional identity. However, the St. Johns County Airport Authority, alongside Interim Executive Director Courtney Pittman, sees the name “St. Augustine Airport” as a stronger reflection of the airport’s role as a gateway to one of the most iconic and culturally rich destinations in the nation.
