St. Johns County Continues Hurricane Readiness Education Efforts

St. Johns Emergency Management was the featured speaker at a regional event in Northeast Florida sponsored by the St. Johns Chamber and the JAX Chamber.

St. Johns Emergency Management (SJCEM) continues encouraging residents and businesses to prepare for the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs through Nov. 30. SJCEM is actively speaking to various community groups and business organizations. On July 10, SJCEM Deputy Director of Emergency Management, Kelly Wilson, was the featured speaker at the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce’s “Joint Chamber at Noon with JAX Chamber: Hurricane Prep for Businesses” event. Watch the hurricane preparedness presentation.

The SJCEM’s public education efforts were launched on May 1 before the start of Hurricane Preparedness Week.

Wilson shared details on storm forecasting, understanding storm surge flooding, wind scales for hurricanes, the differences between hurricane watches and warnings, and tips from the SJCEM Hurricane Preparedness Guide (PDF) on ways to stay prepared and informed.

The St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce wrote in an email to attendees, “The full house today at Joint Chamber at Noon! Huge thanks to Kelly Wilson, Deputy Director of St. Johns County Emergency Management, for dropping real, actionable tips on emergency planning, hazard mitigation, and how local businesses can stay protected.”
