County recognizes 183 total employees for years of service

On February 24, 2026, St. Johns County recognized 183 employees for their dedication to public service during the annual St. Johns County Service Awards ceremony, honoring team members who have reached significant career milestones while serving the community.

The ceremony began with County Administrator Joy Andrews recognizing the lasting contributions of three County employees who passed away over the past year: David Chelgren, Building Inspector II with Building Services, who served the County for more than 11 years; Le’Quitia King, Risk and Benefits Officer, who dedicated more than 22 years of service; and Teri Van de Water, Assistant Circulation Supervisor with Library Services, who served residents for more than 26 years. Andrews honored their commitment to public service before offering opening remarks recognizing all employees in attendance for their continued dedication to St. Johns County and its residents.

Employees were recognized for years of service ranging from five to 35 years, reflecting the County workforce’s continued commitment to delivering dependable, high-quality public services that support residents and advance Organizational Excellence — one of the six priorities identified in the St. Johns County Strategic Plan. The priority emphasizes operational effectiveness, professional development, and continuous improvement to ensure County government operates efficiently and responsibly in service to the community.

This year’s honorees included 65 employees celebrating five years of service, 36 employees recognized for 10 years, 27 employees for 15 years, 35 employees for 20 years, 11 employees for 25 years, six employees for 30 years, and three employees reaching an impressive 35-year milestone.

The ceremony also recognized Ereck Brown, Utility Field Supervisor for the Utilities Department, as the 2026 St. Johns County Employee of the Year. The Office of Public Affairs produced a commemorative video highlighting Brown’s career and contributions, which premiered during the ceremony.

Brown was selected for his leadership, technical expertise, and consistent commitment to maintaining reliable utility services that residents depend on every day.

Throughout his career with St. Johns County, Brown has played a key role in supporting essential water and wastewater operations, helping ensure system reliability while mentoring team members and promoting a strong culture of safety and accountability. In his role as Utility Field Supervisor, he oversees field operations that support the County’s expanding utilities system, coordinating crews, responding to operational challenges, and helping deliver uninterrupted service to thousands of customers across St. Johns County.

The annual Service Awards ceremony celebrates the employees whose dedication, professionalism, and institutional knowledge strengthen County operations and enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors throughout St. Johns County.
