SJC Expands Livestreaming of Board of County Commissioners Meetings to Social Media

New Facebook and YouTube broadcasts enhance transparency and advance Strategic Plan goals of Community Trust and Organizational Excellence

St. Johns County has expanded access to Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meetings by launching livestream broadcasts on the County’s official Facebook page and YouTube channel.

BCC meetings have long been livestreamed on the County’s GovTV cable channel and online on GovTV, and those viewing options will continue. The new social media broadcasts expand the County’s digital reach, providing residents with additional, convenient ways to watch meetings in real time and view recordings afterward.

“Transparency and accessibility are foundational to effective local government,” said Joy Andrews, County Administrator. “By expanding our livestreaming capabilities to Facebook and YouTube, we are meeting residents where they are and making it easier than ever to follow Board discussions and decisions. This initiative strengthens community trust and reinforces our commitment to open, responsive government.”

The initiative was developed and implemented by the St. Johns County Office of Public Affairs. Two trial runs were conducted during the Jan. 20 and Feb. 3 BCC meetings to ensure a smooth rollout prior to the official launch. The next BCC meeting is scheduled for Feb. 17. Regular BCC meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m., unless otherwise decided by the Board.

The expanded livestreaming effort directly supports the St. Johns County Strategic Plan, particularly the priorities of Community Trust and Organizational Excellence. By broadening access to public meetings and enhancing proactive communication, the County continues to foster civic engagement and ensure residents have timely access to accurate information about local government actions.

Official archived recordings of BCC meetings will continue to be permanently available on GovTV.

In accordance with Facebook’s current live video storage policy, livestream broadcasts on Facebook may be replayed, downloaded, or shared for 30 days after the meeting. After that period, Facebook automatically removes the video from its platform.
