SJC Parks and Recreation’s Just Tri It! Kids Triathlon

More Than Doubles Previous Year’s Attendance. A record 180 racers signed up for the 2026 triathlon.

On April 26, the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department hosted the annual Just Tri It! Kids Triathlon, which more than doubled its participation from 2025. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to celebrate the event.

“Seeing participation more than double this year speaks to the growing demand for high-quality, youth-focused programs in our community,” said Tess Sipson, Community Programs Manager. “The Just Tri It! Kids Triathlon isn’t just a competition. It’s all about building confidence, promoting healthy lifestyles, and creating a positive, memorable experience for every child who crosses the finish line.”

A record 180 racers registered for the event at the Solomon Calhoun Community Center (1300 Duval St., St. Augustine), including some adults who signed up for the new parent/child division and joined younger contestants in swimming, biking, and running to the finish.

Children ages 5 to 14 competed in a timed, USA Triathlon-sanctioned event. The race was divided into three age groups: 5–8, 9–11, and 12–14. All participants received a finisher medal, while the top three finishers in each division earned trophies and sponsored prizes.

The Just Tri It! Kids Triathlon was made possible thanks to the St. Johns County Parks Foundation and community partners, including Planet Swim, Florida Youth Triathlon, Smiles by Dr. Craig, Alter Ego, King of Pops, River City Wrestling Conference, Toytopia, County Road Provisions Barbecue, Alive Credit Union, Wolfson Children’s Hospital, FASTSIGNS St. Augustine, and Whataburger.
