St. Johns County Presents Proposed Fiscal Year 2026 Budget

The proposed budget recommends a general fund millage rate of 4.5650, which is less than last year’s adopted rate of 4.6537.
St. Johns County’s proposed Fiscal Year 2026 recommended budget is $1.272B and includes $25M for emergency response reserves, a $169M capital improvement plan (CIP) for the construction of new parks, fire stations, and roads, and 64 new full-time employees for current services and expanded operations.
The proposed budget was presented at the July 22, 2025, Regular Meeting of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners. The budget calendar (PDF) includes the first public hearing to adopt the proposed millage and FY 2026 budget at 5:01 p.m. on Sept. 3, and the second and final public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 16. Both meetings will be held in the St. Johns County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View.
Highlights of the Fiscal Year 2026 Recommended Budget & Proposed Millage Rates are:
- A reduction of 0.0887 mills in the General Fund.
- An increase of 0.0887 mills in the Fire District millage to address future structural budget deficits.
- Emergency Response Reserve of $25 million reduces reliance on outside resources.
- New Facilities: Parks, Libraries, Fire Stations, Roadway Improvements.
- Over $169 million in new funding for Capital Improvement Projects which in part include:
- Culture & Recreation: Davis Park Improvements and Solomon Calhoun Pool
- General Government: Additional Courtrooms and Courthouse Security Enhancements
- Public Safety: Medical Examiner Facility, Fire Station #23, and fire/EMS vehicles
- Utilities: Northwest Water Treatment Facility and SR 16 Water Reclamation Facility
- Transportation: Improvements to Greenbriar Rd., CR 16A, and Old Moultrie Rd.
- A 60-day General Fund target reserve of almost $54 million, to align with national best practices.
- 33 Firefighter positions, uniforms, equipment/supplies to staff new Fire Station 22.
- 18 positions for the St. Johns County Public Library System.
