SJC Urges Residents to Prepare for Potential Flooding, Gusty Winds
Additional rainfall could lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying and poor-drainage areas
St. Johns County could receive an additional 3–4 inches of rain through Friday morning, with higher amounts possible locally. After recent rainfall, additional heavy rain could cause localized flooding, particularly in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
Northeast winds are expected to increase today and Wednesday, with gusts of 25–35 mph possible, especially near the coast. Coastal areas are also expected to experience rough surf, dangerous rip currents, and beach erosion, with breaking waves building to 5–8 feet.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Avoid flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown. Never drive through flooded roadways.
- Secure loose outdoor items. Bring in or secure items that could be moved by gusty winds.
- Use caution near the coast. Stay out of the water when conditions are dangerous and be aware of strong rip currents and rough surf.
- Monitor weather conditions. Stay informed as additional rain and coastal hazards develop.
