April 12 – 18, 2026 Designated as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

Commissioner Murphy presented a proclamation on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners

At the March 24, 2026, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, Commissioner Clay Murphy presented a proclamation on behalf of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, designating April 12-18, 2026 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

This week serves as a time to recognize and thank 911 professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to save lives and serve as the crucial link between citizens in distress and law enforcement, fire rescue, and EMS personnel.

The proclamation was received by Sheriff Robert Hardwick and Assistant Fire Chief Dusty Wilson with representatives from St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and St. Johns County Fire Rescue.

The proclamation reads:

 WHEREAS, Public Safety Telecommunicators of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) and St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SJCFR) are the first contact for those who use the 9-1-1 emergency number; and 

WHEREAS, Public Safety Telecommunicators play a vital role in the protection of human life and property in our community and are responsible for engaging with callers, who are often under duress and in danger, obtaining necessary information, determining the emergency, and dispatching appropriate personnel; and

WHEREAS, Public Safety Telecommunicators are the single vital link for our police officers, deputy sheriffs, firefighters, and paramedics by monitoring their activities by radio, providing them information and ensuring their safety; and

WHEREAS, Public Safety Telecommunicators have exhibited compassion, understanding, and professionalism during the performance of their job in the past year; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida, that the upcoming week of April 12th through April 18th, 2026, be designated

NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida this 24th day of March 2026.
