Community Invited to Donate Food and Funds for Bike Lights at the St. Johns County Public Library System
The St. Johns County Public Library System is launching the 2025 Food for Fines program, now offering two meaningful ways for patrons to give back to local families in need. Running from Sunday, November 9, 2025, through Sunday, December 21, 2025, this annual initiative allows patrons to eliminate overdue fines while supporting the community through partnerships with St. Johns County Health and Human Services and Firefighters for Families.
Participants can contribute by:
- Donating unexpired, nonperishable food items to reduce overdue fines by $2 per item. All donations support the St. Johns County Health and Human Services Food Pantry.
- Making a cash payment toward fines to help purchase bike lights for children and families through Firefighters for Families.
Fees related to lost or damaged items are not eligible for reduction through this program. All community members are welcome to donate, regardless of whether they have outstanding library fines.
“Since we first launched Food for Fines in 2009, the community has really gotten behind the program, showing incredible support year after year,” said Debra Rhodes Gibson, St. Johns County Public Library System Director. “We’re happy to expand this partnership to contribute even more to our community, helping not only those facing food insecurity but also keeping local families safe through new initiatives like providing bike lights.”
