St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Chair Clay Murphy represented the County at the event and offered remarks. The County’s Strategic Plan includes Community Well-Being as one of its six priorities.
The event kicked off with a house blessing by Bill Deluca. Chief Executive Officer Malinda Everson welcomed the approximately 30 attendees and discussed Habitat for Humanity’s purpose and process. Clay Murphy, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Chair, welcomed Palmer and Scout to the neighborhood, discussed the importance of workforce housing, and encouraged them to reach out, as he is their District Commissioner.
Joshua Gibson, Community Relations Manager with Jacksonville Publix Super Markets, spoke about Publix’s commitment to the communities it serves and gave the new homeowners a $500 Publix gift card to help stock their new kitchen. Publix also provided complimentary cupcakes, cookies, fruit, and drinks. After a ribbon-cutting, attendees could take home tours and chat.
Also in attendance were Scout and Palmer’s new Volusia Woods neighbors, City of St. Augustine Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline, Commissioner-Elect Martin Pyszczymuka, members of the Habitat St. Johns team, and the volunteers and community members who dedicated their time to creating a beautiful new home.
