DeLeon Shores Park Improvement Project Groundbreaking Ceremony

$1.9 million project expected to be finished in November 2026

On February 27, 2026, St. Johns County kicked off the $1.9 million DeLeon Shores Park improvement project with a groundbreaking ceremony. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to commemorate the event.

District 3 Commissioner and Board of County Commissioners Chair Clay Murphy and District 4 Commissioner Krista Joseph attended the ceremony, along with various St. Johns County administrators and staff and several area locals.

“We’re here because the community got together and said, ‘We need a place to play, something new, something that’ll help the neighborhood,’” said Commissioner Joseph. “It’s in the middle of Ponte Vedra Beach. There’s plenty of homeowners around it, and it was time.”

After the ceremony, DeLeon Shores Park (82 Dolphin Blvd. E., Ponte Vedra Beach) closed completely on March 1 so K&G Construction Co., Inc. could begin work on the project. Changes to come include:

  • Upgrades to the dog park
  • Completely revamped skate park
  • Three new pickleball courts with lighting
  • Upgrades to the multipurpose field
  • Walking path around the field
  • New restroom building
  • Two new pavilions, large and small

“This project started from the community and the grassroots of the community coming forward and showing a value in this park and wanting improvements in this park,” said Ryan Kane, Director of Parks and Recreation. “It was a really impressive process to see the residents come forward and do that and prove that these are St. Johns County’s parks for St. Johns County’s people.”

Work on DeLeon Shores Park is expected to be completed in November 2026.

“There was a bottom-up rather than a top-down approach for revitalizing the park,” said Eileen Tondreault, President of the Dolphin Cove Community Association. “To our delight, we found great partners in our county offices that…brought our dreams to life on paper. DeLeon Shores Park is destined to be a shiny jewel in the crown of parks sparkling across St. Johns County.”
