Upgrades to Fort Matanzas Vehicular Access Ramp Completed

The improvements include new ADA accessibility features

St. Johns County has reopened the Fort Matanzas vehicular beach access ramp after completing its improvement project. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video highlighting the work that went into the project. Watch this timelapse video to see the work completed in under a minute.

The ramp initially closed for resiliency upgrades on Nov. 17, 2025. During construction, additional improvements were incorporated into the project. In coordination with the National Park Service, which owns the property, the project added ADA accessibility upgrades to the parking lot and entrance area that were not part of the original scope of work.

Funding for the project was provided by NPS; no County revenue was used.

In alignment with sea turtle nesting season, beach access gates close nightly at 7:30 p.m. and will reopen each morning at 8 a.m. through October 31. Do not approach or touch wildlife.
