May 2026 Designated as Problem-Solving Court Month

Commissioner Whitehurst presented a proclamation on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners

At the May 19, 2026, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, Commissioner Christian Whitehurst presented a proclamation on behalf of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, recognizing May 2026 as Problem-Solving Court Month.

The proclamation was received by Judge Alexander Christine and members of the Veterans Court

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, problem-solving courts have been restoring lives, reuniting families, and making communities safer for more than 30 years; and

WHEREAS, since the inception of the St. Johns County Drug Court in 2002, over 330 individuals charged with drug and related offenses have completed program requirements and since 2017, when St. Johns County Veterans Court began, nearly 150 justice-involved veterans have completed program requirements; and

WHEREAS, problem-solving courts provide focus and leadership for communitywide partnerships, bringing together public safety and health professionals in combatting substance abuse, mental illness, and other issues present in the criminal justice realm; and

WHEREAS, judges, attorneys, treatment and rehabilitation professionals, law enforcement, community supervision personnel, researchers and educators join to form healing communities; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida, that May 2026 be designated as

Problem-Solving Court Month

Recognizing the successful work of problem-solving court programs and how they improve our community.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida this 19th day of May 2026.
