St. Johns County announces that the cable buried in the sand near the Pope Road beach access has been successfully removed.
The western half of the Pope Road parking lot is now open to the public. The eastern half of the parking lot will remain closed for safety purposes until the equipment used during the removal operation is picked up first thing Tuesday morning, Aug. 11.
Beachgoers are asked to use caution and follow posted signage and directions while the remaining equipment is on site. Alternate beach access points are available nearby.
