Frequently Asked Questions
Why is St. Johns County Utility Department (SJCUD) launching this new schedule?
Utilities face a variety of challenges in meeting reclaimed water demand and providing adequate pressures. SJCUD has carefully studied the supply and distribution constraints and prepared this new schedule with the twin goals of encouraging water sustainability and improving customers’ experience in accessing the reclaimed water they need for irrigation on a seasonal basis.
I’ve had issues with reclaimed water pressure during peak irrigation times in past years. Will the new watering schedule help?
Addressing the reclaimed water pressure issues you’ve experienced is one of the key reasons SJCUD is implementing the new Silverleaf Conservation Watering Schedule this year.
The new schedule is designed to improve overall pressure and reduce the time needed to refill tanks and reservoirs to support system reliability. While it will take time for all customers to adjust and for SJCUD to fully optimize the system, we expect to see improvements as more people follow the designated watering days and times.

When should I set my irrigation timer?
It’s important that you set up and test your irrigation system to run during the exact same time period you plan to water your lawn. This will help ensure that the water pressure will be similar to what your system will actually experience, improving coverage and efficiency.
What if I’m in a situation where I need to water more than two days per week? (Laying new sod, etc.)

Why is my HOA and/or CDD watering on non-designated days?
St. Johns County Utility Department (SJCUD) is working directly with HOA and CDD landscapers and irrigation contractors to adjust watering schedules for common areas. These adjustments help manage water pressure across the community and ensure more efficient system performance for all customers. In addition, some common areas are irrigated with stormwater.
Have other utilities or communities implemented programs like this?
SJCUD is not the first Florida utility to enact modifications to watering restrictions. The City of Tampa has enacted one-day-per-week restrictions year-round, JEA has implemented their Mandatory Water Restrictions, and the City of Oviedo in Seminole County uses a modified reclaimed schedule.
