Course record now sits at 27 under par
A major figure in disc golf, six-time world champion Paul McBeth, set a record at St. Johns County’s Moccasin Creek Disc Golf Course during his very first visit in August.
McBeth posted a video to his YouTube channel on Aug. 17, recording his time at Moccasin Creek.
“Really fun course, easy to play, easy to maneuver,” McBeth said at the end of his video. “It’s a really good course… if you are ever in the area, it’s worth playing.”
McBeth completed the course, located at the St. Johns County Fairgrounds (5840 SR-207 E., Elkton), in under two hours and shot 27 under par for 26 holes from the long tees. The previous record was 22 under par.
The St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department operates the disc golf course.
“It is awesome to have our community course played by a Professional Disc Golf Association member,” Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Kane said. “I hope it brings a lot more attention to disc golf in St. Johns County.”
“Moccasin Creek Disc Golf Course has seen many improvements in the past few years, due to the efforts of SJC Parks & Rec and the St. Augustine Disc Golf Club (STADGC),” STADGC President Russ Savard said. “We have new tee pads, additional baskets, and a pavilion. It has become a very popular course to play in Northeast Florida. It is difficult for some of us to shoot even par from the short tees… then Paul McBeth stops by and shoots 27 under par for 26 holes, and makes it look easy!”
