Council on Accreditation recognition affirms continued adherence to rigorous national standards in service delivery and operations
The St. Johns County Health and Human Services Department has achieved reaccreditation from the Council on Accreditation, reaffirming its commitment to high-quality service delivery and organizational excellence.
The accreditation, awarded in December 2025, recognizes the department’s adherence to nationally recognized standards across a wide range of operational areas. The Council on Accreditation evaluates governance, leadership, financial management, risk management, ethical practices, and client care to ensure that agencies meet rigorous performance benchmarks.
“It means that you can come to our building and you can get services from us and know that the processes and policies that are in place, either through state governance or federal governance, are being followed here,” said Shawna Novak, St. Johns County Health and Human Services Director.
As part of the reaccreditation process, the department submitted detailed documentation, including policies, procedures, and operational standards. In addition to this review, independent evaluators conducted an on-site assessment, meeting with staff and clients and observing day-to-day operations to verify that established policies are consistently implemented.
This designation assures residents that services provided by the Health and Human Services Department align with state and federal requirements and reflect best practices in public service delivery. The on-site evaluation process further confirms that the department is effectively carrying out its mission and maintaining accountability to the community it serves, thereby supporting St. Johns County Strategic Plan priorities such as Community Trust, Community Well-Being, and Organizational Excellence.
The department has now successfully completed the accreditation process three times, demonstrating sustained excellence and continuous improvement over more than a decade.
The St. Johns County Health and Human Services Department provides a range of programs and resources designed to support the health, safety, and well-being of residents throughout the community.
