New Traffic Patterns Coming to SR 16 at Stratton Boulevard and Industry Center Road

St. Johns County Public Works is preparing to introduce new traffic patterns at the intersections of State Road 16 with Stratton Boulevard and Industry Center Road as part of an intersection improvement project funded in part through a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) grant. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to help explain the new traffic pattern to the public before it opens. The video features Public Works Project Manager Chris Gatchell, who walks viewers through the improvements on location and explains how the new intersection design will operate once construction is complete.
The improvements follow an FDOT Intersection Control Evaluation study, which identified the Restricted Crossing U-Turn design as the most efficient way to improve traffic flow and reduce conflict points at these intersections.
What to Expect
When the project is complete, drivers will notice several changes, including:
- New traffic patterns using signalized U-turns for certain turning movements.
- Additional turn lanes to improve traffic flow.
- New traffic signals and updated pavement markings to help guide drivers through the intersections.
- Two new pedestrian crosswalks, including one at the eastern signalized U-turn.
The new traffic pattern is expected to start in mid-to-late September.
