St. Johns County Recognizes Two 100-Year Old World War II Veterans at Board of County Commissioners Meeting

Commissioner Murphy presented Certificates of Recognition on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners

At the May 5, 2026, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, Commissioner Clay Murphy presented certificates of recognition on behalf of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, honoring George Ceccanese and William West, two 100-year-old U.S. Military Veterans.

The certificates were received by both veterans and their families. They were joined by Colonel Bill Dudley of the St. Johns County Veterans Council, and by those who have served or are serving in the U.S. military.

George Ceccanese

A veteran of both the Army Air Corps and the U.S. Navy, George carried forward a proud family legacy of military excellence. From his professional achievements at GE to his transformative leadership as President of Habitat for Humanity, his life serves as a testament to dedication and character. We honor George for his 100 years of remarkable contribution and his enduring spirit as a true “Good Samaritan.”

William “Bill” West

St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners takes pleasure in celebrating the 100th birthday of William West. In recognition of William “Bill” West for his distinguished and heroic service during World War II. From the small-town streets of New Jersey to the combat zones of the Philippines, Bill’s life has been defined by a selfless commitment to his family and his country. As a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, he demonstrated exceptional valor under fire and endured the harshest condition of the Pacific theater with quiet dignity. We honor his courage, his sacrifice, and his unwavering devotion to the cause of freedom.
