April 2026 Designated as Water Conservation Month to Raise Awareness

Commissioner Taylor presented a proclamation on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners

At the March 24, 2026, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, Commissioner Ann Taylor presented a proclamation on behalf of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, recognizing April 2026 as Water Conservation Month.

The State of Florida, Water Management Districts, and the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners are working together to increase awareness about the importance of water conservation during a typically dry month with acute water demands.

The proclamation was received by Doug Conkey with St. Johns River Water Management District and Neal Shinkre, Director of St. Johns County Utility Department as well as Utility Department staff.

Residents can learn more about Florida-friendly landscaping, watering days, operating irrigation controllers, and other water saving tips by going to the Water Conservation Web Page.

St. Johns County also provides a Water Usage Customer Portal where residents can view and track their usage statistics, compare their usage against temperature and rainfall, and receive custom usage alerts via email and text message.

The St. Johns River Water Management District issued a Phase II Severe Water Shortage Declaration earlier this month, affecting St. Johns County and several other counties across Northeast Florida following prolonged dry conditions and declining groundwater levels. All St. Johns County residents and businesses are being called upon to help conserve and protect our precious water resources by practicing water-saving measures and increasing awareness of the importance of conservation.

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, The State of Florida, Water Management Districts, and the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners are working together to increase awareness about the importance of water conservation; and

WHEREAS, by making sure these devices are installed, connected, and working as intended, our community can prevent unnecessary watering, reduce waste, and make better use of the rainfall we receive; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida, that the month of April 2026, be designated as
