St. Johns County has completed roadway improvements along County Road 210 from I-95 to U.S. 1, marking a significant milestone in enhancing mobility and connectivity for residents, businesses, and schools in north St. Johns County. The County celebrated the project’s completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 24. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to highlight this important project.
“This project is a direct response to what our residents have been asking for,” said Commissioner Clay Murphy, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. “Widening CR 210 from I-95 to U.S. 1 adds capacity, improves traffic flow, and makes this corridor work better for the families, businesses, and schools that depend on it.”
The improvements included widening approximately seven-tenths of a mile of CR 210 from two lanes to six lanes from Trinity Way to Beachwalk Boulevard, adding sidewalks and curbing on both sides of the roadway, drainage enhancements, and a new traffic signal at the intersection of CR 210 and Badger Park Drive/Cumberland Park Drive. These upgrades are designed to improve traffic flow and provide more reliable travel times, particularly during peak morning and afternoon hours.
“County Road 210 is one of the first projects delivered through the County’s Infrastructure Delivery Team, which we formed in 2023,” said Joy Andrews, St. Johns County Administrator. “It represents a new way of delivering infrastructure projects in a more collaborative and coordinated way. Today is a demonstration of how this model works.”
Formed in 2023, the Infrastructure Delivery Team was established to enhance coordination across departments and streamline project delivery. CR 210 is one of the first major projects completed under this model, demonstrating how a unified approach can improve efficiency and outcomes.
The project directly responds to community feedback regarding congestion along the corridor and reflects the County’s commitment to practical, long-term transportation improvements.
“I can’t even count the number of emails and phone calls I’ve received since taking office in November 2024 from residents and business owners in this area—the frustration with how long it was taking to get through here,” said Commissioner Ann Taylor. “I felt it myself, because I’m on this road all the time as well. The fact that this project was so major, so involved, and is finally completed—there are no words for how appreciative I’m sure both the businesses and the residents are. It’s truly a wonderful day.”
During construction, the County implemented innovative strategies to help reduce congestion impacts, including opening an additional eastbound lane at the start of the project that remained open through the duration of construction to maintain traffic flow as much as possible.
“CR 210 is a vital corridor for this community, and we know construction can be challenging in already busy areas,” said Greg Caldwell, Director of St. Johns County Public Works. “We appreciate the patience of residents, businesses, and commuters throughout this project. Their understanding helped us deliver improvements that will make a meaningful difference in daily travel.”
The project was funded through a combination of impact fees, the Transportation Trust Fund, and developer contributions, with a Fiscal Year 2025 budget of approximately $12.6 million and a Fiscal Year 2026 budget of approximately $6.1 million.
Prime AE served as the civil engineer for the project, with England-Thims and Miller, Inc. providing construction engineering and inspection services. Watson Civil completed roadway construction, and American Lighting completed the signal work.
The completion of the CR 210 improvements supports key priorities identified in the St. Johns County Strategic Plan (PDF), including infrastructure investment and organizational excellence, by delivering coordinated, efficient solutions that enhance daily life for residents.
