St. Johns County Honors Inaugural Graduating Class of SJC 101 Citizens Academy

The County graduated 23 students from the 12-week program
The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners recognized the 23 graduates of the inaugural SJC 101 Citizens Academy during its regular meeting on June 3. The Office of Public Affairs also produced a highlight video celebrating the inaugural class.
Board Chair Krista Joseph and County Administrator Joy Andrews commended the Spring 2025 class for completing the 12-week program, which offered participants an in-depth look at the inner workings of County government and encouraged active civic engagement.
“SJC 101 is how we build a community — one class at a time,” Andrews said. “We are building understanding, trust, and relationships. This is the most important thing we have accomplished in the past two years.”
The free course, held weekly from March 6 through May 22, introduced participants to the people, processes, and departments that serve St. Johns County. Participants met with leaders from all six constitutional offices, toured County facilities, and explored services provided by departments such as Fire Rescue, Public Works, Administration, and Growth Management. Having gained first-hand knowledge and insights, graduates are encouraged to apply to volunteer for County boards and committees.
Graduates who attended the Board meeting were invited to the front of the auditorium to be recognized and photographed in commemoration.
The next SJC 101 session will take place in Fall 2025, on Thursdays from Sept. 4 through Nov. 20, noon to 2 p.m. Enrollment is limited to 30 participants per class, selected in order of registration, and is free of charge. A waitlist of approximately 150 individuals is currently in place.
