Public Notice of Intent to Apply for CDBG-DR Grant Funds

Date: September 3, 2025

St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners intents to apply to the Florida Department of Commerce for a subrecipient grant through the Rebuild Florida 2023 and 2024 Storms Infrastructure Repair Program (IRP Program). An amount of $400 million is available through the IRP Program. The IRP Program is funded by a Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery and Mitigation (CDBG-DR/MIT) allocation directed to the State of Florida. CDBG-DR/MIT funds are congressionally enacted, made available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and administered by the State of Florida.

A public comment period will be held from September 10, 2025, through September 24, 2025, to allow citizens to review and comment on the proposed application before submission.

St. Johns County proposes to undertake the following projects:

Ponte Vedra Beach FEMA Cat G Project

The proposed project aims to restore beach and dune erosion along 8.9 miles of shoreline in Ponte Vedra Beach, St. Johns County, Florida, caused by Hurricanes Debby and Milton in 2024. The restoration will rebuild the engineered beach and dune system to reestablish storm protection, public access, and ecological function.

Project Location

Ponte Vedra Beach with a service area of St. Johns and Duval Counties.

District 23 Regional Medical Examiner’s Office Retrofit and Rebuild

Full retrofit, renovation and expansion of the District 23 Medical Examiner’s Office including updating the building to current code, hardening the structure against hurricane force winds, providing a safe room, and expanding operational capacity.
