St. Johns County Economic Development is recognizing National Small Business Week (May 3-9) by highlighting the critical role small businesses play in driving the local economy, creating jobs, and shaping the community’s identity.
Small businesses make up the vast majority of employers both locally and nationwide, serving as a cornerstone of economic growth and innovation. Across the United States, more than 36 million small businesses are in operation, representing 99.7% of all employers.
“Small businesses make up roughly 80% of the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce membership,” said Scott Maynard, Senior Vice President of Economic Development for the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce. “Their presence is felt in every corner of our community, and they play a major role in shaping the distinctive character and strength of our local economy.”
Locally, small businesses contribute to job creation, support community development, and enhance quality of life across St. Johns County. From retail storefronts to service providers, entrepreneurs continue to invest in the region and meet the needs of residents and visitors alike.
